"Safety Net" at Reiss Hall
Safe Harbour Residency -Mixed Media Art Workshop with Shelagh Swanson
Service Description
Reiss Hall Sunday 15th May 10.30am - 1pm Sunday 29th May 2pm - 4.30pm Come along to this fun workshop to get involved with the first part of my Safe Harbour Residency, and make your piece of our community "Safety Net!" The aim with this series of workshops is to create a collaborative community art piece, with people from across the Sinclair's Bay area, to celebrate the aspects of Sinclair's Bay that make residents feel safe, things that are their own personal safety net, be it a person, a place, a hobby, an organisation or even a furry friend! During the workshop I'll provide you with all the materials and advice on how to decorate a small diamond shape (or two!) which once finished will be connected together with all the other resident's diamonds to create our finished "Safety Net," with a view of displaying the artwork publicly at the end of the Residency. There is a big focus on reusing and recycling in this project, the diamond shapes are made using recycled milk cartons and there will be a range of recycled papers and imagery available to further embellish your design. All you have to bring along are photos or pictures of things which represent your safety net - rest assured, you can still take part even if you can't bring these along (I'll have magazines and plenty of other ways to get creative!) I'll also be doing pop up workshops throughout the area over the next couple of months, so if you see me (in her little red van!) setting up anywhere please say hello! In the nature of inclusion to ensure everyone can be involved, I'll also be making activity packs for people who aren't able to attend sessions in person - please get in touch with Sinclair's Bay Trust or myself if this applies to you, or someone you know. I look forward to seeing you at one of our sessions!
