"Ghost Ripples"
Reclaimed Champagne Bottles - Site Specific Installation - Haddo Country Park - October 2017
During my first site visit in preparation for creating a piece for the Haddo Arts Festival, I was struck by the idea of Haddo House as a family home, and considered what it would be like to grow up there. I saw the country park as somewhere where children could run free, away from the restrictions of behaviour that being in such a grand house must have imposed. One of the most simple acts of play in a natural context is the act of skimming stones - hence I was inspired to create these "ghost ripples," to honour the memory of these wee moments of freedom. I used champagne bottles which I found in a disused dump at Haddo; this added another level of the idea of play.
