Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm Community Project

Writer's picture: Shelagh SwansonShelagh Swanson

One of my big summer projects this year is a commission for Vattenfall UK, the company responsible for the installation of the Aberdeen Offshore Windfarm.

Our overall intention is to engage the local community through an Art Project, the outcome of which will be an exhibition which will be unveiled then permanently installed at "Unit 6", Vattenfall's Aberdeen base!

So far I've been to a couple of community events, at the Sand Bothy, Balmedie and Blackdog Community Day, to create some wee collage pieces with the locals, but the main Community event is coming up the 28th and 29th at my very own studio! Come along anytime between 12pm-4pm on either Saturday or Sunday to add your piece to the collaborative work; we'll be making a large scale glass image of the Windfarm itself, and lots of wee houses too, to represent you! All the pieces will be fired and then permanently displayed in the offices, so you unfortunately won't be able to take them home.....you will however be invited to a special open day to see your work on display. If you're desperate to make something for yourself, I'm sure I could accommodate that too though!!

Suitable for any age, (I'll be pre-cutting the glass, so it's basically like making a big jigsaw!) so bring the whole family along and make your mark!

Here's the Facebook event page, please let me know if you're planning to come!
